I recently went to Kauai (if you somehow didn’t notice), and decided on camping for the majority of the trip as it was the cheapest option. If you’ve ever camped for an extended period of time, you may have noticed that you were yearning for a real bed and a nice, hot shower. Well, you are not alone in these thoughts, every 4-5 days I was desperate for an actual mattress to sleep on. This led me to the Kauai Shores Hotel, and the reason you’re most likely reading this blog post.
Kauai Shores was our go to hotel while visiting Kauai for several reasons. We ended up staying there 4 separate times, and took full advantage of the time we had with running water, a pool, and (if you ask the front desk) complimentary mai tai’s! So what made Kauai Shores stand out compared to other hotels in the area? Read on to find out…
Kauai Shores was our go to pick because it was the cheapest/nicest hotel we could find. We booked through booking.com (usually the day of), and found it was the best bang for our buck!
Located in Kapa’a, it is the perfect distance away form Lihue (the largest city on Kauai) and the north shore. We ended up spending a ton of time in the Kapa’a area, as there were a bunch of great restaurants and activities to do there! The hotel is located right on the beach and has a great walkway along the water as well.
The Lava Lava Beach Club:
Ok, I will say it now. If you are in Kauai, go to the Lava Lava Beach Club and get the appetizer platter. It is SO GOOD. By far the best appetizer dish I’ve ever had. I can’t even explain. They also have amazing staff who are extremely cheery and will get you anything you need.
What You Get:
So, what do you get when you book at Kauai Shores? To start, a lovely room with a great bed and a hot shower! You also get access to the pool and hot tub, beach towels and complementary Mai Tai’s (if you ask for them at the front desk). There are also group yoga classes on Saturday mornings that are free for guests!

These reasons were why we ended up LOVING the hotel, but we did have a couple issues as well. I’m not sure if all guests will say the same, but we had a few issues with the cleaning staff on our stays. A cleaning lady walked into our room THREE TIMES while we were in the room. Once when I was in the shower, a second time when we had pushed back our checkout time, and a third time when we had the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door and were outside in the hallway. I’m not sure if there was some sort of language barrier, or if she just reaaalllyyyy likes cleaning, but she seemed sorry every time it happened and it wasn’t a huge deal to us.
Also, we were in the room and an exterminator came to the door to ask if he could spray pesticides in our room….with our stuff in there! We politely told him to get outta here, but it was strange indeed. I’m not sure if this is a normal thing or if we were just unlucky, but I’m glad we were in the room as I wouldn’t want chemicals coming near my belongings!
Other than these few mishaps, all of our stays at the Kauai Shores Hotel were pleasant ones. And I don’t think we were alone, as a family who was camping at the same places as us also stayed at the hotel too! If I’m ever back on the island, I’ll make sure to go back (and order their appetizer platter).
